What is a genre?
A genre is another term for a certain category under forms of art or entertainment (e.g. books, music, film etc). They usually have their own conventions and follow certain criteria, and are often split up into sub-genres to give more detail and description. Examples of music genres are Rock, Indie, Dance and R&B. Rock music will stereotypically contain live performances and instruments, whereas dance may contain flashing lights, a club/disco setting and eye-catching costume choices.
